BC Sailors at Nacra 17 Worlds - August 08, 2013
Report from Luke Ramsay & Nikola Girke from the Nacra 17 World Championships, (the new mixed gender Olympic Class Catamaran). Worlds started with a bang... actually 2 bangs, one after the other, hoisted alongside the postponement flag. Uncanny for Holland, we had no wind. A high pressure system was sat over us in Scheveningen, which means mhot temperatures and light wind, weather ideal for the beach goers but not for us sailors. All of day 1 was spent waiting for wind. Day 2 wasn't much better, but we eventually did get 2 races off late in the day. It was challenging conditions, light winds with a very strong current. We had some great moments including rounding the top mark in race 1 in 3rd. We finished 9th - learning some really valuable lessons about light air racing in catamarans. Race 2 was a challenge; we fell behind early and slowly chipped away, picking up a few boats on each leg and finished 21st. Rest of Luke and Nikola's report here. |
