Basic Cruising Instructor Course - November 17, 2014
BC Sailing is offering a Basic Cruising Instructor Clinic in the new year. The clinic will be hosted by Cooper Boating on Granville Island beginning Tuesday, January 6th. The process for becoming a new CYA Basic Cruising Instructor involves: 1. Attending a one day sailing assessment clinic to assess your sailing skills. In this clinic you will be expected to single hand a small keel boat like a Martin 244. The objective here is to ensure you sail at the reflex level as there is no time in the instructor clinic for remedial sailing training. If your sailing skills are adequate, you will then be invited to attend an instructor clinic. 2. Attending a Basic Cruising Instructor Clinic. This clinic is a minimum of 5 days (40 hours) in duration and focuses on the development of lesson planning and teaching skills using a keelboat as a primary teaching aid. The clinic will be run over 2 weeks, Tuesday and Thursday evening from 5:30 to 9:30, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 to 5:00. The clinic is very intensive, and this allows candidates to reflect on their learning during the week and apply what they learned the following weekend. It also minimizes time away from work for some candidates. If you are still interested in becoming a Basic Cruising Instructor, please contact Cooper Boating at: 1815 mast tower road |
